i’ve been taking some pictures on my phone.

lately i’ve had a weird fascination with smiley faces. it feels very 1994.

i’m excited to finally announce a new project that leigh and i have been collaborating on for the past six months. synonym is a website and biannual literary, art, and design journal grounded in original content. we are currently putting together issue 1: ennui. you can find more info at our website:

the journal attempts to break away from the constant content of the internet and to create something more permanent and treasured. our ultimate goal is for our readers to return to the journal again and again feeling refreshed and inspired, like when you read your favorite book or listen to your favorite album.

i seriously could not be more thrilled to be working with such amazing artists and writers, and am so gracious that these kind people have found time to contribute to our new endeavor.

currently on our website/blog you can find an interview with nakako hayashi, creator of “here and there.”

and, each week we will be posting more interviews so stay tuned!

today i am having trouble concentrating on the work i need to get done. maybe because this week has been very humbling work-wise. as a distraction this afternoon, i made some clay/dough from cornstarch, salt and water. the clay doesn’t really hold very well but is a bit more natural than sculpey and will do well for making beads.

here are some textures from the day:

one of the donut-shaped beads i made out of the salty clay.
